Lot 2959
Constantine I, 307/310-337. Follis (Bronze, 18 mm, 2.45 g, 7 h), a contemporary imitation of an issue from Siscia. Irregular mint, after 318. NI CONSVINHHИI Helmeted and cuirassed bust of Constantine I to left, holding spear over his right shoulder and shield decorated with horseman on his left. Rev. Two victories standing facing each other and holding shield over altar; around, imitative legend and mintmark. Slightly rough and struck from a worn reverse die, otherwise, good very fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.

This is an interesting copy of the so called Danubian type of Constantine's VICTORIAE LAETAE PRINC PERP coinage, which was struck from 318 in Siscia. This imitation copies official coins, such as RIC 50, which occasionally show a horseman on the shield.
